Basic Concept
EAS (Electronic Commodity Surveillance) is a technical method to prevent shoplifting. It has been widely used in supermarkets, fashion retail stores, libraries, etc.
The electronic commodity surveillance system consists of 3 components:
Electronic antenna
Deactivator or separator
Special tags and tags are fixed on goods or books. After the goods are purchased or checked out correctly, these tags or tags will be removed or "disabled" by the store staff.
Use the "Label Disabler" to disable labels. At the checkout, the cashier should pass the "deactivation pad" for each product label. To remove hard tags, the cashier can use "pins" to release the pins.
After deactivating the tag or removing the tag, the customer can pass the antenna without any alarm. At the exit of the store, the detection system will issue an alarm or notify the staff in other ways when it senses that a valid tag is passing.
Three typical frequencies in EAS
Electromagnetic (EM): The transmitter and receiver work together to induce harmonics, and under the mixed action of low-frequency (10Hz to 1000Hz) magnetic fields, the sum or difference signal is generated due to the nonlinear magnetic response of the material.
Acousto-Magnetic (AM): The detector of this type of tag emits periodic tonal bursts at a frequency of approximately 58kHz, the same as resonance. These tags are similar to magnetic tags, they consist of two tapes, one magnetostrictive tape
Radio Frequency (RF): The system peak value is between 1.75 MHz and 9.5 MHz. The most popular frequency is 8.2 MHz. Induction is achieved by sweeping the resonant frequency and detecting the drop. These tags are essentially LC tank circuits.
Appication & Features
Technology | Application | Features |
RF | • Clothing, • supermarket goods • some electronics | • Often cheapest system • RF labels flatter than AM Note! • Higher frequency makes signal easier to shield • Signal disrupted by liquids and metals |
AM | • Metal hardware, • bottled liquids • some electronics | • AM signals not disrupted by liquids or metals • AM antennas have better range than RF • AM labels can be reactivated |
EM | • Libraries • Book stores • Pharmacies | • Uses small, thin labels • perfect for the spine of a book – which can be deactivated when a book is loaned and reactivated when it is returned. |
EAS benefits
•By properly marking the source of the goods and ready to display the goods with the source label, you can increase profits, reduce shrinkage and enhance the customer experience
• Reduce losses from shoplifting, organized retail crime, internal theft, supplier fraud and management errors through excellent anti-theft protection and enhanced EAS intelligence
• Use a variety of hard tags, tags and sensors designed to protect almost all product categories, and display high-theft products freely and confidently
• By quickly replenishing lost items, and understanding loss events with near real-time visibility, thereby maximizing conversion rates and customer satisfaction
•Achieve lean store operations through excellent product protection, so store employees can focus on serving customers instead of supervising the store
