Livestock management is a very complex process. Their identification and continuous monitoring are therefore challenging and time-consuming. To overcome these challenges, farmers around the world use ear tags to identify and manage their livestock and other animals. Many countries have authorized ear tags for livestock to reduce the time and cost involved in livestock management. Use labels for easier identification and monitoring.

Animal tagging is not a new process. Livestock ear tags were developed in 1799 under the direction of Sir Joseph Banks, President of the Royal Society, to identify Merino sheep in flocks established for King George III. Animal tagging has evolved over the years from traditional to electronic methods. The latest one is to enable RFID electronic tags.

What are animal ear tags?

An ear tag is a plastic or metal object with an identification number on it and placed in the animal's ear. New electronic identification tags (EIDs) use radio frequency identification device (RFID) technology for more efficient livestock management. These electronic tags use the EID number or regulatory number on the button behind the animal's ear. The information on the tag is read and stored by means of radio waves.

There are significant differences between traditional ear cards/tags and RFID cards.

1. Non-contact technology: RFID systems operate on non-contact automatic identification technology. Unlike traditional systems that require human-animal contact. RFID technology can quickly and easily manage livestock remotely. The card system is suitable for radio waves read with the aid of a scanner.

2. Faster and more accurate: RFID tags are faster and more economical than traditional tags. In this system, everything is computerized and gives results in a very short time. Using an RFID card system, multiple cards can be printed at once, and each data can be collected and stored in one place, much faster than traditional systems where humans have to manually print each tag and then read and write each animal's data many. Since there is no human contact, the data collected through RFID tags is more reliable and the possibility of human error is minimal.

3. Durability: The label is durable and can be used in harsh environments. Unlike traditional tags, RFID tags will not be damaged in dirt and mud and can be used for the life of an animal.

They are made of TPU material, which is convenient and sturdy, and will not hurt the ears of animals.

4. Ease of use: RFID technology is easy to use, and can read radio waves even from a long distance without manual contact. Compared to traditional systems, it can scan multiple animals at once. RFID allows a large amount of data to be stored at one time, and the data can be accessed and updated at any time.

5. Data security: The RFID card has a special chip with a unique number, which cannot be copied. Legacy systems are vulnerable to data breaches and logging errors. RFID data recording helps to track the health of the animals and the spread of any disease. It makes it easy to record movements and check the diet and health of animals.

6. Low operating cost: RFID card system has lower cost and less time-consuming than traditional system. Traditional systems involve huge labor costs. Additionally, traditional labels require frequent replacement due to wear and tear. RFID tags last longer, thus reducing replacement costs. Economies of scale reduce the operating cost of RFID systems, which can monitor and manage huge livestock with limited human resources and logistics.
